Not quite the catchy title of the film, but it does sum up the journey to my most recent Spoon’s!
It was actually a family holiday, and obviously I had to sneak in a visit (or 3) to the only Spoons on the Isle of Man.
I originally visited The Conister Arms, Douglas in 2025, a few months after it was taken over by Wetherspoons, so it was still transitioning from the previous owners.
How has it changed in just over a year ?, well I would say its a work in progress, It is a lovely building, spread over 4 floors. Sadly there is still no Wetherspoons carpet, so not one for the Carpet aficionados.
There has been so significant internal changes, with the downstairs bar being moved, and a new doorway created leading to the upper floors, which I think was a great improvement. There was panelling work being carried out while we were there, and they have integrated a lovely feature around the door way itself.
So to sum up:
- Yes you can order via the app
- The food is great quality Spoons food
- No There is no Axminster carpet
- Yes there is plenty of room, especially on the upper floors.
- Yes there is indeed a mirror ball.
If you have any questions about visiting such a far flung destination, then send them my way.. but the short answer is yes I would highly recommend a visit to the Isle of Man in general, for a relaxing laid back pace of life.
